Keystone Talks to CBS4 About Wolf Reintroduction Public Engagement

CBS4 recently produced a story about wolves in Colorado, highlighting both the recent wolf sightings in the state as well as the public engagement effort that will be implemented as the state develops a plan for wolf reintroduction. Julie Shapiro, the director of Keystone’s Natural Resources Program, was interviewed for the story.

In 2020, Colorado voters approved an initiative to reintroduce the Gray Wolf to the state by the end of 2023. Keystone Policy Center was tapped in May to partner with Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) to design and implement a robust public involvement effort that creates a variety of opportunities for the public to engage, learn, and provide substantive input and feedback throughout the wolf reintroduction planning process. The public involvement process will be conducted across the entire state but additional outreach will be given to those regions that will be most impacted by the reintroduction of the wolf with particular attention given to Western Slope communities. A public involvement website with more information on how to participate will also be launched soon.

We encourage you to also read the online article from CBS4’s website that accompanies the above video as it shares more information about wolves currently in Colorado and the education sessions being administered by Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
